Energy for All Alaska: Art Nash, Biochar

Biochar is a form of roasted biomass that when created in an oxygen free environment can be used as a soil amendment, material to remove heavy metals in reclamation projects and that can be used for water filtration. Interior Alaska has massive amounts of feedstock, and with UAF characterization of biochar it can become a marketable product on a commercial scale for gardeners, environmental remediation companies and possibly NGOs.
